Some more cheerful news on wagtails

After feeling very despondent all afternoon, without hearing a wagtail call at all, both parent wagtails suddenly appeared with a fledling in tow. It was definitely a youngster because it’s tail was a lot shorter. It was able to fly up to the roof with its parents.

I think it is probably the fledgling I released this morning as I haven’t heard any noise from the chimney, which I usually do when its feeding time. At least one of them seems to have made it!

Whilst I was sitting in the garden I heard a sudden commotion amongst the birds. Various small birds shot out of a pine tree in all directions as a buzzard flew down and perched in it. After looking around for a few minutes it gave up, swooped off and mooched on up the valley.  Sighs of relief all around the garden!
